If summer took you away from downtown Florence and you are back, don’t forget that ‘Louise Bourgeois in Florence’ is approaching its final weeks. Visitors to the Museo Novecento will see Bourgeois’ mostly red gouaches, which the artist produced from the age of 94 onwards, in addition to a series of sculptures in fabric – all on the theme of Motherhood.
Even her iconic ‘Spider Couple’ in the complex’s courtyard is a nod to the sculptor’s weaver mother. Those exploring the Museo degli Innocenti this autumn will find Bourgeois’ Cell Portrait, an evocative sculpture in the building’s ancient choir room, reminiscent of the museum’s Madonna of Mercy paintings.
