‘Her vision excites a strong emotion and yet when we have dramatised it, or poetised it or translated it into all the blues and greens, and fnes and exquisites and subtleties of our vocabulary, the picture itself escapes. It goes on saying something of its own,’ says author Virginia Woolf of her sister Vanessa Bell's artwork, now on show, in all of its multi-faceted uniqueness, at the MK Gallery in Milton Keynes until 23 February 2025. The exhibition ‘Vanessa Bell: A World of Form and Colour’, curated by Fay Blanchard and Anthony Spira, brings the world the largest-ever survey of her works.
The eclectic painter (ceramicist, muralist and more) describes art production, in her own words, as follows, ‘It is so exciting and so absorbing, this painters’ world of form and colour, that once you are at its mercy you are in grave danger of forgetting all other aspects of the material world.’
Calliope Arts is providing support to the exhibition through the Vanessa Bell Circle of Friends.
